...limit yourself to just asking about polio? There are plenty of other horrible diseases that we don't have in the US thanks to vaccines. I'm sure parents in poor African countries would be happy to vaccinate their kids with the vaccines we're not using. The interesting thing about the anti-vaccine movement is that a majority of people not vaccinating their kids are not poor, but are considered middle and upper-middle class. Arizona is a good case study for this sort of thing.

Vaccines are one of the biggest improvements to public health and a big reason why we all have such long life spans. (Along with a proper sanitation system.) If you think vaccines are so bad, why don't you go ask some older people, especially ones who were poor and lived in rural areas, what it was like to worry that their children would get polio and be crippled for life? Thanks for making this. It pisses me off how scientifically illiterate people in a so-called first world nation like the United States are. Not only are these people endangering their children because of their stupidity and willingness to listen to a dumb celebrity over actual scientists, they're putting other people at risk too. Some people have bad reactions to vaccines and rely on herd immunity to keep from getting sick and if there are a lot of people in the population who (next comment)

@omgbaby1 there are no toxins and they are already on a safe schedule. the reason they give infants shots after birth is because they are EXTREMLY susceptible to disease during that time period.

Anyone who argues that she is not to be blamed, please consider that much of people's knowledge on complicated issues are heavily influenced by media or person who they trust or can relate to. Spreading of false information hurts all who hear and believe it, despite good intention. My step-sister refuses to vaccinate her child based on studies that have been dis-proven, yet are still published in popular parenting books and magazines.
