11/19/09 - Jim Boyle speaking at Hope College's inaugural entrepreneurship symposium hosted by HCOG.

Hope College Opportunity Group (HCOG)
HCOG is a student-driven group aimed at nurturing and developing the ideas of Hope College students.

The idea for this program derives from similar start up groups in schools across the nation, predominantly The Yale Entrepreneurial Institute (YEI). YEI, started by alumnus Jon Soderstrom (1976), serves to help undergraduate and graduate Yale students start scalable new ventures. YEI acts as a portal for entrepreneurship on campus and offering programs and events year round that serve the entrepreneurial interest of students and surrounding community.

YEI has supported the formation and growth of over 35 student-founded ventures in the last two years. Of those companies, 13 have raised a total of over $16 million of outside investment capital.

With the help of Mr. Soderstrom, alum Tom Maas (1978), and other business owners from the surrounding communities, we hope to create a similar program to enable students to pursue their own vision for the future. This is not a group geared solely to business and econ majors; various skills are needed to form a creative and successful program.
