@Kunstdesfechtens that's true. they are all great arts. the fact the we can only see Eastern arts now is because Asians consider martial arts more than just a fighting tool, but as spirits (or something like that) which they vow to maintain, whereas Europeans just abandoned their fighting arts when firearms came into existence. But now it's good that Europeans are trying to revive their traditions. Hura!

@MrJmak223 Like the "Dobringer" manuscript says: "There is but one art of the sword". :)

@SteampunkPagan halfswording isnt used much in blosfechten (unarmored fighting). you can but you usually shouldnt close that much (something i myself have a hard time with)
-
HAve you guys ever hurt your selves by accident?
-
Funny I always would assume one would half-sword with such a large blade.
-
@Giagantus No idea. Though formation fighting and duelling are very different things. The gladius itself is a celtic design that the legions adopted and modified. The original gladius was leaf-bladed but changed to a straight edged weapon over time.
-
@Kunstdesfechtens Unless I am wrong Roman soldiers were forbidden from "duelling" with Keltic warriors, because the usually lost against the latter. And the Celtic sword was significantly longer than the gladius. An interesting thing to note imo

Wow...nice movement :D

Is anyone else just mesmerized by how fluently and almost graceful a fighting style they make the swordplay out to be? Its also perfectly accentuated by the piano score. Its flawless. I dont think I can ever look at a Hollywood sword fight the same again.

@zoolkhan But the truth is that it is reconstructed, it doesn't exist in an unbroken line, hence the reconstruction. And fencing like that which Talhoffer has no modern counterpart, where as rapier fencing sort of has modern sport fencing (though it still different from the real martial rapier fencing.

Great video!

@ginjaninja1988 nice assessment! however one of the main ways the legions fought was in fact with speed, the roman battle line was not usually shoulder to shoulder as many think, the men three feet in between each other and when faced with a large swing from an axe or sword, were taught to take the initiative and quickly block and stab at the same time while keeping the forward movement, otherwise, as you said, if the roman stood still his shield hacked up and he would probably die
do you manufacture yourt own weapons or not? if not, im interested in the longsword that the black cap guy is using, where did you buy it, is it the Albion "Liechtenauer" ? . i like it because it has a long grip..longer than most ive seen. i await your answer thank you.
