WCRC 37248 'Loch Arkaig' K&WVR Steam Gala (29/06/08)

WCRC/WCRlwy's performing at her usual high-standard during the Keighley & Worth Valley Light Railway's 40th Anniversary Steam Gala, partially in-place of 30777 'Sir Lamiel' (another bloody kettle!).

She spend all of today (Sunday) working Keighley to Skipton/Hellifield shuttles, which should have continued to Settle in top and tail mode, but this was cancelled with the unavailability of 30777.

The only reason the 37 was there was because of the loco failures/derailments the day before of the original locos for these shuttles. Should have gone to steeton for one of the north bound trips.

Regardless of steam vs diesel... If you don't like steam, why did you go to a steam gala?

True, but I wouldn't fancy it's chances of hittnig, say, 50mph, between closely-spaced stations, whereas you'd be quids-in with a cl.31 or cl.37!

My point is that steam has passed it's best in my view, and I'm a diesel-nut, so obviously diesel is gonna be better!

Oh hell-yes!

Steam has really no-chance at matching a '37 for start-to-stop timings of similar maximum speeds; you'd need a pretty-massive heavy-freight engine to even equal a '37 for point-to-point timings!

also been reading a couple of stuff about Steam Vs Diesel, the main thing that springs to mind is a diesel is usualy quicker at "getting Away" then a kettle.
