Kaporos 2011 Demo #1 (Midwood, Brooklyn)

Our first demo of the year on Ave P in Brooklyn. We had a large crowd (especially for a weekday evening and considering the nature of the demo). It was the first time I'd been to this place. It's interesting how each neighborhood is very different. People were doing the ritual in tent, behind a curtain. Although we could see very little, we could hear the chickens crying and we could smell the feces, blood, and fear.

They agreed to give us several birds if we would disband. It was approaching 8PM (our ending time) anyway, so we agreed. Initially, they proposed giving us six birds. They only gave us four. A few of our people stayed to try to speak with practitioners.

Thank you to everyone who trekked to Brooklyn, after work, to bear witness to this very painful event. Thank you for speaking out for the chickens. They were speaking for themselves but, clearly, no one was understanding or even acknowledging their cries. Tonight we were their translators.
