Meteorologist Dave Eichorn explains how warming in the Arctic associated with climate change has resulted in colder temperatures and snowy weather much further south in segment two of a meteorologist's view on climate change.

About A meteorologist's view on climate change video series: 30 year veteran meteorologist Dave Eichorn explains climate science, climate change, and regional to national weather events through an environmental meteorological perspective.

Other videos include: A meteorologist on climate change -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e8o3lf...

ESF Climate Literacy Project: The video series is part of a NASA supported Global Climate Change Education project at the College of Environmental Science and Forestry in Syracuse, NY to increase climate science literacy. In addition to the free YouTube video series there is a 6 week 1 credit lower level undergraduate online course and a full semester 3 credit upper level undergraduate online course if you wish to pursue climate science in more depth and earn college credits -- http://www.esf.edu/esfonline .

Why don't they build huge, floating structures of lightweight material in the North Pole? If those structures are completely white, they will reflect the rays back into the atmosphere. I'm sure this will slow the climate change, if you build on a scale that is big enough. If North America and Europe get colder, we're gonna have problems all around the world. Bright minds out there, do something with this idea.

Alot of people in Europe find this hard to acknowledge.

We`re expieriencing a severe winter at the moment. Snow & frost continue into March and maybe April. The AO Index is at a very negative sclae, and high pressure blocks are obeserved over Greenland since weeks with a core pressure over 1060hPa. This scenario is worrying and definatly an effect from the polar warming in my view.

YEP, you will definitely be one of those aggressively telling everyone how you read the science & could not understand why some chose to be so damn willfully DUMB & ignore all the evidence...Hell, you tell them most of the evidence is on a 3rd grade level & folks still could not understand it!

...That is exactly what you will be doing in 20yrs if not sooner.

Will you two stop?! Like it or not. There is something interesting going on here. Positioning yourselves will go nowhere. I don't care what side anyone is on. The bottom line is that the Arctic IS warming and it IS messing with mid latitude circulation. Let's elevate the debate: i.e. cause and effect relationships, and an understanding as to why this is happening. 1) 20 years from now, you will not be laughing. 2) Education through positioning doesn't work. Chill...learn. Thanks!

Very true!! Trying to educate a person about science, even if the science is only on a 3rd grade level, is very hard to do if the student lacks the capacity to understand how science works in the first place. Plus, much like Young Earth Creationist, FACTS do not matter when the person has already made up their mind. SAD!!

Seriously, I am done here. 20yrs from now you will be one of those who claims "I never denied the science of anthropogenic climate change" like most deniers will.

The Arctic anomaly referenced in this video has been prevalent much of this winter (2013) It's pretty extreme right now (March 2013). It is why it's colder in now (March 2013) in central Canada than in the Arctic. No matter what your position is on the subject, what is going on at high latitudes IS pretty amazing. If you are interested in some "neutral" concepts: Some key words to search: "Arctic Oscillation." "Teleconnections" Peace!
