woman teaches us to drive. GET BACK TO TEH KITCHEN!

@OpCzar It's just for mirror positioning purposes. So, that when you have your head at the normal driving position, your side mirrors start where your rearview mirror ends. It's quite effective.

Erh, here I came expecting to be taught something new about mirror placement, then I realised it was EXACTLY the same as the adjustment I had to do at my first driving lesson....

If a motorist doesn't know this already they shouldnt be on the road

do the driving test people care how you adjust your mirrors?

@Bahzad23 uggghhh...........you.

@inhibitor001 turn your head around or if you dont have a window in the back of your car like vans i guess use the mirror but that would probably have to be adjusted

I heard that they are. Specifically, the BMW driving school in California.
I figured this technique out on my own and it works!

so this is actually safe? how come the driving schools (that i know of) are not adopting it??

This technique for adjusting your mirrors helps you get rid of your blind spot. If you don't move your head, then you will end up with a "normal" mirror setup that leaves the sides of your car out of your field of vision.
