This is the first of many clips that will be uploaded of the Rripangu Yirdaki Masterclass 2008. Here Dhangal Gurruwiwi delivers the cultural induction introduction, explaining about kinship and other things.

During the week-long Masterclass, participants learnt to make and play the yirdaki from Djalu' Gurruwiwi. There were outings to the bush, campfire dancing and singing, hunting and spear-fishing, lessons with Djalu, amongst other things.

Rripangu Yirdaki acknowledges the support of the Yothu Yindi Foundation, Rio Tinto Alcan, and the Department of Regional Development, Primary Industry, Fisheries and Resources (DBIRD).

Expressions of interest are sought for the 2009 series of Masterclasses, see link below for details:

  • $30,000 to go to college in some places...

  • No probs buddy, I too get frustrated with everything revolving around money. I didn't ask for money to plan, organise and run last year's Masterclass and didn't get any. And I paid for my own airfares and everything else. But I need money in my life too because I have bills to pay. Hope you continue to enjoy this channel!

  • Last year I paid almost $10,000 for food catering. We could also complain that $12,750 is too much for a boat, but we know that's what a good boat costs and we factor that into the price of the Masterclass. And I think people who attend the Masterclass will get to understand about values and the important things in life, Djalu's message is about heart and soul.

  • Nah, money is just another form of trade which is as old as the earth, ancient civilizations traded and so does today's society. Money can be a bad thing, but it can also be a good thing. But I can't imagine society without any form of trade. After the cost of food, boat hire and every other expense, there's actually not much left in the kitty. You see, Rripangu Yirdaki has to pay $12,750 for the hire of a luxury cruiser.

  • Its just a personal thing about everything being related with lots of Money!! Thanks for putting videos in this channel,i love it,and learn a lot from it;-)

  • I know, i learned to play didge throw utube watching many videos and practicing a lot..Sorry about my comment, but unfortunately many of the pleasures in life and extremely commercialized just because people like to enjoy it..Didgeridoo comes from the Earth, money comes from man´s corrupted mind...I hope someday things change and people understand what values are really important in life!! I agree about what you said about learning from the Master, money marks the quality!

  • The other thing too Rodrik is that there are many many things one can do to learn about Aboriginal culture that don't cost money. You don't have to be rich. Like this channel :-) But Djalu's Masterclass is another thing, I imagine joining a Masterclass with a guitar God or famous chef or whatever also costs a lot of money. One could also read a book about cooking or guitar, but they're different things altogether. It is and should be a special privilege and not a right to be in Djalu's workshop.

  • Everything costs money... imagine walking or swimming to Australia from Spain. Impossible. But if you pay the airlines a few thousand dollars, they'll fly you. Of course not every Spanish person can travel by plane, and Djalu's Masterclass is not everyone's cup of tea. But the May 2009 Masterclass is full already, there were more people wanting to participate than places available. Life all good things in life, price is determine by demand and supply, plus other things.

  • In Life, there are always different ways to reach the same goals...money normally makes it easier...thats probably the difference between a tourist and a traveller...walking by your own feet...;-)Keep up the good work!!!

  • like all things in life...
