Too much tension on the bar bud, You would have opened it quicker if You were a little lighter on the pressure and Your picks will last longer.

like many people said a bump key would have been faster but if u don't want to take the time with making one all u have to do is practice with a tension pick instead of a raking pick which can damage the lock plate
