"It's a Hockey Night in Pittsburgh" is an original song and music video produced by students and faculty of the Peters Township School District as part of a project completed by the high school's Media IV Public Relations Class. The project celebrates the rich history and bright future of the Pittsburgh Penguins and their fans. The intent of this endeavor was to teach students how to create an original work with emphasis on the learning process over the final product without violating copyright or the fair use provision for education.
The original song was written by high school music teachers Mr. Ryan Perrotte and Mr. Milton Barney. McMurray Elementary music teachers Mr. Raymond Cygrymus sang vocals and Mr. David DifIippo mixed the final version. The Pittsburgh Penguins gave PTHS permission to use all Mike Lange game calls heard in the song. The video was created, taped and edited by Mrs. Nicole Sitler's Public and Community Relations class with assistance from Mrs. Robin Hogin-Frick's Post Production class.
Special thanks to the following individual for their help:
Bob Grove, Aaron Miller, Jill M. Shipley, and Billy Wareham from the Pittsburgh Penguins
Dennis Allison and Robin Stanton from the Southpointe Iceoplex
Keith Seymour owner of Iron City Grips
Lyrics
(Intro)
It's finally five o'clock 'nother hard day's work has ended.
You hit a mental block and you feel over extended.
But it's time for the excitement to arrive,
'cause tonight's the night the city comes alive.
From Mt. Washington down to Aspinwall,
screaming Crosby, Malkin, and Jordan Staal
Better hold on tight,
It's a hockey night in Pittsburgh
(Interlude)
Talbot takes a look finds the defense has just hesitated.
A saucer pass to Cooke and a 3 on 2 is created.
And he slaps a shot that's tipped in by Dupuis
Now we're in the 3rd and winning 4 to 3
But then Fleury's net which we must defend,
there's Letang, Orpik, and Engelland
to turn out the light.
It's a hockey night in Pittsburgh
(Guitar Solo/Bridge)
They nearly closed the door and the Penguins had almost departed.
But 1984 is the year the dream was started.
Took the cup in '91 and '92,
lead by a superstar named Mario Lemieux.
But what really counts is he saved the team
as he rolled the dice on the "American Dream" .
He put up a fight,
so there's a hockey night in Pittsburgh
(Let's Go Pens Chant/Coda)
