At Irvington, a neck to neck race between the 3:40pm (#872) train out of Poughkeepsie to GCT and a deadhead 12 car M3a mutt set.

  • No doubt the m3 will be faster. The top speed for the m3 is 100mph. The top speed for the shoreliners is 0mph. And the top speed for the p32ac-dm would be 110mph.

  • I know I am very picky and curios but is it me or does the m3a look shorter than the shoreliner. Or was that how the shot was taken. I know that both of them have to be atleast 12 feet and 8 inches. Weird because I have a picture from 1972 of an LIRR m1 and an r44 side by side and they were both the same height. The r44 is 12 feet and 1 inch. Did the m1 and m3 have their trucks raised at some point because I know the comet and shoreliner coaches are 12 feet and 8 inches.
