here's an extension to the originally 6-part tutorial. After creating the slow-spinning Earth animation, let's add a rogue meteor and paint it in different sizes or at various speeds, even make it fly along a path to simulate it being caught by gravitational force and crashing into the planet. Add some flares and lens reflections during the brightly lit impact, and we'll call it Hollywood special effects, post work and compositing on a small budget.
