This is a montage about all of the injuries Kristen Maloney suffered from during her gymnastics career. Of all the gymnasts in my original Broken montage, Kristen Maloney seemed to have it the worst with injuries. In the spring of 1998, Kristen developed a stress fracture in her tibia and compete with it several times, despite the intense pain. No amount of rest would heal it, so she had to have a rod inserted into her tibia to relieve the pain. During her elite career she competed with a torn labrum that also required surgery. She sprained her knee at the 1999 Worlds and withdrew from the AA and EF portion of the competition. At the 2000 Olympic Trials, she competed with a sprained ankle in addition to the rod in her shin. Her injuries worsened by the 2000 Olympics and she injured her leg in prelims. Her problems continued in her NCAA career at UCLA. She had several surgeries on her shin to insert and remove rods. During one surgery, she contracted a bacterial infection in her bone and could have lost her leg. It was a miracle she was able to do gymnastics again. She is the toughest gymnast ever. Many people blame Donna Strauss at Parkettes for all Kristen's injuries.

  • she is one tough bitch

  • She was 17 in 1998 and therefore 24 in 2005. Yeah, she's amazing. A lot of people say she is superhuman because she shouldn't be able to compete as well as she did with such horrible injuries.

  • Super human is an understatement, That, my friends, is dedication to what you love to do.

  • i went to parkettes...miss her

  • She's a great gymnast and I'm sure she has always pushed herself to compete but I think it's irresponsible to allow gymnasts to compete with such severe injuries there should be a medical standard. The bacterial infection had the potential to become far worse she could have lost her leg or even died.

  • @entreamis17 Yes, more pain. As long as I can flip around, it doesn't matter if i'm crippled later.

  • Weren't sports suppose to be fun...

  • Wow! Good for her! What a dedicated driven athelete!
