  • You need to get a tripod and mount some angle iron on it, like K7AGE did so you can concentrate on the contact and not have to keep looking down so much. Overall a good contact, just not very user friendly.

  • I thought about making a tripod and putting the radio on it like K7AGE, but I work mostly portable at random locations, lugging more stuff around just wasnt ideal for me.

I do have a radio that can do it all now, So at the very least its only 1 radio instead of the double hookup I used during this one.

  • What is the name of that tower?

  • That is Cronomer hill in newburgh Ny, its an observation tower they built out of an old fire tower that burned down.

  • Good vids. I just monitored my first AO51 pass a few minutes ago. I'm going to try transmitting one of these times once I get the hang of it. I only have one radio though, could be a problem. How much power are you using when you do this?

    THX and 73

    KD0BSS

  • I'm just using my handhelds 5 watts. They are fairly old, so it might be a little less then that at this point.

the problem with 1 radio without full duplex is that, you cant hear yourself talking on the sat.. you dont know if you doubled with someone etc etc.. but just wait for a hole, and jump =) Someone usually comes back

  • lol at 3:40 ... with out her, I think you'd be in trouble. :) good vid. I'm a n00b studying for my license now. hope to have one soon so I can join in on the "nerdiness" as she says.

  • You didn't do to bad at all buddy, It's just a matter of getting use to the set-up when using 2 Handhelds. I use 2 all the time. You'll soon get the "feel" of things and won't need to re-check your frequency by looking down when tuning on the downlink. You'll "hear" when tuning is required. It becomes second nature.

    Have fun on the birds

  • Nice vantage point

  • =)) cool! :)) I'm not good at this stuff, buy you are shitting on their heads right here right? :)) in a very .. subtle way :)) I wonder if you could do that on Area 51 =)
