I like this technique. It actually works well against hobos and people with no skills or if you show it off on a demo when you know the punch comes straight BUT if a guy knows his stuff, let's say Karate, one wouldn't be fast enough to turn like this when being bombarded by Karate style "fast" punches - Apart from that, there are way better actions one can take against such a punch.
Still I really like the art Aikido and this technique was very well explained, good stuff.

lols don't be mistaken, Learning these techniques, if done correctly, is not painful at all.
Don't be scared to try this out, just don't do it with some scrub, or you'll really get hurt:P
lols, i speak from experiance, i'm currently around 3rd kyu Akido :D just 2 years ago XP

@mikeymoughtin But knowing different styles on a whole is always good. I know aikido, karate, Brazilian jui jitsu and muay thai. I tell you knowledge of multiple arts is always good. When i lived in Arizona i had to deal with allot of street fights because of racism and me being not white and such. Sometimes aikido is the way to go for certain engagements. But thats just me. Thought i agree karate is much more straightforward. But its easily fallible to counters.

@ThePadus in aikido, it's not always redirection. There is also evasion.
if this is just to stop a strike, seems like a lot of moving. if it's to stop someone with a knife, than it seems worth it. i do shorin-ryu karate (im not very high ranking) but for strikes there are a lot easier ways to deal with them, and this move looks like it is based off of a straight punch, which street fighters are not known for, and most people throwing a straight punch (properly) wouldn't commit themselves to it so much, rendering this move a bit useless. but again, good knife self D.

For the people who have said this technique doesn't work, i will make another quote of my sensei "reacting to a situation is only using a technique as it is graded, adapting is using the technique and shifting it to the situation." A lot of people don't understand that this technique can work against any punch, when is has been adapted for that punch
