From what I read on the yahoo NYS&W board a long time Susquehanna employee, Jim Ferrell, was retiring and this was to be the last train he piloted. Some speculated that there would be a banner on the front of the lead engine. Well, I was there at 4:30 along with another rail fan. All we got in good daylight was a HiRail truck stopping just before the Maywood Ave. crossing and having its rails lifted up so it could be on the road (that will be shown in my next video).

By 6:15 PM the other guy left as the light was to dim for his camera. My Vixia could get a decent shot so I stayed a bit longer. A few minutes later it began to rain so I had to use the Museum's roof for cover. So much for getting the station in the video! FINALLY the train showed up around 6:35 (the other railfan said he heard on his scanner that WS3 was taking its time sorting cars). Four engines pulling 66 cars between 5 to 10 MPH...with me HAND HOLDING the camcorder! No banners on the engine so if this was the final ride it was a done low key.

Engines were NYS&W SD40T-2 3012, CEFX SD40M-2 3147, NYS&W SD40T-2 3014 and CEFX SD40M-2 3131.

  • NICE D&M BOXCAR!!!!!

  • @MilwaukeeSDman Thanks!

  • Great video. Second time this week that the 99 went slower than molasses. BTW, is NS still detouring on this line to avoid the southern tier?

  • @YankeePat94 I guessing a track problem. A Hi-Rail truck did come up to the crossing about an hour earlier. Oh, I don't know if NS is still running actual trains on this line. They are still handing over their HO7 freight to the Susquehanna so it can be dropped off at Campbell Hall. I read that the first 23 cars on this train here were HO7 freight.

  • @YankeePat94 Correction. I heard that NS ran a few over the weekend.

  • Geez, seems like everything was out to prevent you from getting an ideal shot, huh? I wonder why the train was crawling?

  • @GenesisSanctuary I'm guessing track problems. A MOW Hi-Rail truck did come up to the crossing from the east about an hour before the 99 passed.
