For two days the Fitzroy Community Garden is throwing its gates open to the public for a festive weekend of cultural activities.
The Fitzroy Community Garden is the newest of its kind in Australia and is home to gardeners from across the globe including Southeast Asia, the Horn of Africa and the Middle East.
Its just over six months since the garden was reopened and it has blossomed into a beautiful patchwork of plants and friendships.
Fitzroy Community Garden is also the site of a burgeoning weekly community market, designed to address food security issues for public housing tenants.
Come along to see the gardens and enjoy cultural performances and food baked in our own wood fired oven.
Interpreters will also be on hand so that visitors can meet and learn from the gardeners.
The Open Gardens weekend will feature the premiere of I always am at home a documentary about the history of the Community Garden and its people produced by Turtle Films and directed by former Salvadorian refugee Sal Castro.
