Although it is true that Phil Collins wants to step away from the music biz, several articles recently published make it sound that Phil is severely depressed (nearly suicidal!). A recent post on his website clarifies his retirement is more about being a father, less about feeling left out of the music industry (and "nobody will miss me"). The Daily Vinyl video #04: "In The Air Tonight" (rare home demo version). Sit back. Relax! It's time for The Daily Vinyl.Simply allow yourself to be mesmerized by that magic black circle, just like the old days. This Vinyl Video uses a rare Home Demo Version (the "Drawing Board") of "In The Air Tonight." (You'll notice an early vocal take and no real drums, especially at the typical air-drummable climax.) This version was released as the b-side to a 12" record for Phil's song "If Leaving Me Is Easy" and to my knowledge, is no longer available anywhere.

You can watch the other two demos at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NT4peyedh-k ("I Missed Again" and "If Leaving Me Is Easy").

This Vinyl Video was filmed late at night while a wave of nasty storms were about to roll in. The sky was ominous and, although cannot be seen, I think can still be felt. (oh lord!)

Phil Collins' first solo album "Face Value" was written and recorded when he was simply considered an amazing drummer that had only taken over lead vocals for Genesis a few years earlier. He was not a songwriter nor the pop-star that everyone knows today. If you've never heard "Face Value," it really is incredible and layered with raw emotion.

  • If you're interested in hearing the other two demos on this LP, you can watch them at /watch?v=NT4peyedh-k ("I Missed Again" and "If Leaving Me Is Easy").

  • This sounds amazing. I have this same demo but mine came from a record that was very dirty. So its very scratchy sounding. This vinyl, does it have any other face value demos??? if so please post them as ive been looking for ages for them

  • yeah, it's also got the home demo versions of "I Missed Again" and "If Leaving Me Is Easy." Very cool stuff. I think about a setting to film them too.

  • pas mal l'idée de la vidéo !!

  • Putting the drums break towards the end of the song was a great move. The song is good without the drums buyt the drums really raise the tension and excitiement level.

  • the demo is from 79

  • I don't know why but I think you putting the record player in the grass and playing it is pretty cool!

  • The first demo is much better than the 2nd demo.

  • great quality. most versions ive heard of in the air tonight sounds like tape quality.

  • Why you do it that?

  • I found a pretty good copy on ebay. Those demos are amazing. I like I missed again very much.
