Racing Pigeons...Sport of Kings

This is the first part of a documentary about the sport of pigeon racing. This is an ancient sport played in every country of the world. This doc was made to persuade the US Postal Service to commemorate the racing pigeon on a postage stamp. Their service to humanity has been immense. From birth, the pigeons are trained to race home, sometimes from distances over 200 miles. The fastest bird wins the top prize which could be a trophy or better. The men and women in this video really love their birds. They fly out of the Northern Catskill Club in Catskill, New York. In the next parts we'll meet the flyers, visit their lofts, learn some training tips and while giving the auction birds an opportunity to mature and learn, we'll come back to watch the auction race with a bird's eye view from a plane flying high above the brave racers. Then we'll return to the clubhouse to check the clocks.
