Which is cheaper? That is not just the issue, it's about where do the chick peas come from, organic? If you cook your own you're helping the environment because no tin is needed to package, no wrapper on the tins, less transport costs etc, etc. So why don't the government give us a rebate on our rates... less rubbish in the bin? less polution, more healthy possibly with less preservatives.

  • Thank you for making this video. I was wondering about which one would be cheaper and better for the environment. I know canned beans are convenient. However, my husband and I want to do as much planning as possible and be a smart consumer:)

  • Unless someone tells me different buying your own and cooking has to be better:

    1. Less Packaging/weight.

    2. Less transporting costs and Carbon Footprint.

    3. one plastic bag with a label instead of a tin which has to be processed and then thrown away or recycled and then you have the processing cost of that tin all over.

    4. 1kg of dried beans takes up less room.

  • interesting, thanx.. what i m wondering about now is which ones r more healthy, the dryed or the tinned chick peas?

  • @zillyberlin I'm not sure why tinned peas would ever contain preservatives... normally the heat involved is enough plus salt.

  • i LOVE chick peas. what did you make with them? hummus? or add them to something?

  • i bulk up meat stuff with pulses. (like chilli con carne) don't like too much red meat.

  • @zillyberlin Tinned chickpeas may use some preservatives. If you are concerned about them, it is better to use dry chickpeas that you cook yourself at home. Otherwise, there should be no difference.

  • I <3 chickpeas

  • Cheers ...
