Part 17 of 31 - Trying to get that consistent upfront vocal sound? Instead of slamming a compressor, try stacking 2 or more compressors together to get the desired sound.

  • @burpo Your welcome, and it can be overwhelming from time to time. I get confused sometimes myself. I'm going to be starting a series myself sometime soon, so if there are any topics you want me to cover feel free to let me know. Graham's awesome, and he keeps me on my toes. :)

  • @MastersfortheMaster I totally believe that you and he know your stuff, but I don't get it. It''s over my head. I wish that weren't the case. Thanks for trying to explain it to me.

  • @burpo He doesn't mean it sounds the same. He means it produces the same 'up front' consistency he's looking for, but with less 'artifacts' than a single compressor.

  • The reason it sounds less squashed, yet still punchy, is all in the timing mechanisms involved with 2 compressors as opposed to one. Having two compressors means that when the level of the audio reaches the threshold it engages both compressors, meaning the ratio is essentially squared, so a 3:1 ratio on both compressors acts like a single 9:1 ratio. However it takes longer to engage so it's smoother. Then compressors disengage separately, allowing a smoother return to normal volume.

  • Yeah thats a cool trick i get it. cheers.

  • @KerepesiMarcell It's called Start A New One by Manic Bloom
