1960, Spain is under the yoke of Franco and the economy is in ruins. Combining gentle comedy, social critic and his autobiographic life as a child , Carlos Iglesias' debut as writer, actor ( in the role of his father) is an universal tale of immigrants and their courage to succeed. Two very likable mechanics, , decided to emigrate and enter Switzerland seeking to make their fortunes there. They are astounded by the simple things in Swiss life--perfumed toilet paper, free breakfasts in a hotel, and hot and cold water coming from the same faucet--and must also face prejudice and the language barrier. They work hard and have girlfriends that they must abandon when their families arrived, but the son adapts easily to the new life and loves it. This film is a humorous tender look at the clash of cultures from the viewpoint of a child who will treasure this experience for life.

ayer (4-01-08) vi la película por TV y me sorprendió muy favorablemente por lo bien que transmite esa mezcla de sentimientos de esperanza en el futuro, soledad en un pais extraño, y nostalgia por lo que se deja atrás de todos los personajes.

@lejoe48 totalmente de acuerdo contigo. Cuando vuelve a españa, y ve como es la gente, la escena en donde persiguen al perro y le tiran piedras es tan español... allí la clavó. Y en la entrevista que le hicieron el otro dia en tv1 dijo que esa escena la suavizó porque en la realidad lo que vió cuando el era pequeño y volvió de Suiza es como mataban a un perro a palos. O sea que imagínate. España es un pais de bárbaros.

yo no veo ninguna nostalgia de españa en la peli...mas bien es una critica hacia la españa de la epoca y sobre todo, a la españa actual. no hemos llegado al nivel, en todos los sentidos, de la suiza de los 60...es triste,,me parte el corazon ese niño. pablo, saliendo de un pais civilizado donde es feliz para volver a españa por obligación.
