None of the big box crap they make today will EVER compare to one of the old sansui's, pioneers, kenwoods, etc..So long as i can buy decent vintage stuff, ill never spend any money on the new garbage they have out today..EVERYBODY today likes bass, but true hifi also has great mids and highs too...I own a recapped G7000, and nothing from today will compare to it...it makes my neighbors bose sound like complete garbage lool

I bet that old system sounds a 1000 times better than the compressed mp3 ipod shit, that crap killed the true hi fi industry

If you had the right speakers, you would generally have had your bass and treble in the neutral position or, if your stereo gave you the option, had the tone bypassed. The only reason to boost your bass or treble was if you were listening with smaller speakers, headphones or listening at a low volume. If you needed just a bit of extra help, there was the LOUDNESS button, but I usually recommend staying away from that one.

Bass wasn't so important in those days. People didn't have subwoofers, and rap and techno wasn't around yet. These receivers were expected to be flat, which they were within technological limits of the day. 'Course, modern consumer crap doesn't any more; bass is in and sounds impressive to people who don't care much about stereo gear, so companies emphasize it now with heavy porting and bass boost features that aren't actual loudness circuits of yore.
Isn't it funny that receivers of the 70's had bass when the music didn't. Now the music has bass but the receivers don't!!

Fascinating for Nostalgic purposes, but WOW, what a horrible commercial! Stanley practically looks like he has Down Syndrome and is played off like he's Rain Man. Apparently audiophiles were thought of like the Computer Geeks of today??? And what was with that reach around? Creepy!!!
