sorry, I"m one of the Lao people who don't listen or watch Thai movies or music. Just have no interest. But I know for a fact that Thai people understand the Lao language. I have inlaw who is Thai but speak perfect Lao.

Thai people also listen to a lot of classic Lao songs sung in the Lao language. Both languages are mutually intelligible. A majority of the Thai language is comprised of words that are similar if not identical to the Lao language. Therefore, they can understand us and we can understand them. However, the Lao language has additional words that the Thai language did not incorporate into their language and vice versa.
