  • so is the 1903 fired from any farther than the 200yd line?

doesnt seem worthy of its power and accuracy

can someone enlighten me with the string of fire?

  • @Sturmmann For this particular match it is fired from 200 yards. First there is a slow fire prone, 10 shots in 10 minutes. Then, a rapid fire prone from the standing position, 10 shots in 70 seconds including the reload. Then standing with no sling, 10 shots in 10 minutes. The CMP website has the information on all the games and matches.

  • is this realy safe

  • @MW2sgt Yes, very safe. Safety is the number one concern. In all of the time I have been going to these matches, not one person has been injured by a firearm. There are safety officers everywhere, and most of the shooters are experienced marksmen. No one loads a weapon until they are on the firing line and a load command is given. When you are not on the firing line, your weapon has a clearly visible empty chamber indicator. Strict safety procedures are observed.

  • Yes it is very safe. Some people probably wouldn't believe its safe but your dealing with experienced marksman as well as various safety protocols. Granted i do have a friend that's in the A.M.U who actually got shot in the pits. The concrete at the top had eroded a little and basically sloped straight into the pit. During rapid fire stage shooter ran out of time so he threw one downrange as the target fell. Bullet hit concrete and ricocheted downward into his shoulder.

  • @Tjeezi1 WOW, that sux I hope he recovered. I never worried about being in the pits. Safety is a big issue. I thought about someone hitting a carrier and having a ricochet. That was probably a one in a million shot. Was it at Perry? Their pits are fairly new.

  • shh shh shh, you guys hear that? That is the sound of Freedom!!!!!

  • @aa8ky Yeah he was ok, and yes it was at Perry but on a range that was older at the time. I believe when i actually went my first time that the pits it happened on had been redone, and i went first time in 97. And yeah it was definitely one in a million chance for that to happen nowadays. Brings back so many great memories, i have got to get back into it..

  • @dills2403 Yes If you haven't fired in a match, you would attend a short clinic the day before and you should also apply a month in advance. The matches start is about a month so now is the time to apply. There are usually 1200 shooters or more compete the day of the match. You also have to find someone experienced to shoot with that would help you work the target area. Usually there are plenty of guys alone so that is no problem. Good Luck.

  • are these civilain contest also?
