u seriously need to upgrade. and, your water quality is obvisouly not good, to even REALLY bad. your poor RTC has full blown gill curl on both sides. its a miracle the poor thing is still alive.

Sorry to disappoint but you are SERIOUSLY and HYSTERICALLY mistaken. My water quality was always CRYSTAL CLEAR and in BALANCE thanks to my powerful overhead filter complemented by two equally potent submersible powerhead canisters.

ou were judging the water based on the facts that 1)the overhead tank lamp was off, 2) the main house lights were also off to give way to the more subtle Christmas lights from the overhead garlands and nearby tree, which you can clearly see reflecting off the tank, and 3) based on the generation loss and degradation of the video crispness from the non-digital video 8 source to Pinnacle capturing device, conversion and finally uploading here.

VLADI was a VERY healthy and happy RTC for all of EIGHT years. I did weekly partial water changes and never overfed. Fed him live fish and/or beefheart every other day or every two days as recommended for fish that size, which require some fasting. The ONLY time his water went bad was when he would sometimes regurgitate food, which DOES happen to RTCs. I would IMMEDIATELY do partial water change. VLADI only died when I was busy for a week and he did not get fed.

AND NO, he NEVER had gill curl on either side. What you mistakenly identified as that was his gills flapping while he swam! P.S. Why don't you look at his other videos where the tank and room lights were on to see for yourself the excellent water quality!

A 50gal will definitely not house an RTC suitably for long. You should invest in as big a tank as your budget and space will allow. Mine was in a 50gal till he was a foot long. Then I moved him into a 100gal. Most important is that it should be at least 2-3 feet wide and as long as possible, with excellent filtration and aeration, and no edible tank mates.
