DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS. A demonstration of the hazards presented by oxygen. This video was filmed under controlled conditions by experienced fire service personel in the presence of a Safety Officer and with the permission of the district Chief Fire Officer.
Note: The demonstrator is wearing impact-rated goggles instead of using the face shield on the helmet for improved vision.

  • Lighting could be better but very objective and useful

  • @Boyntonstu In this case the toilet paper. This safety demonstration shows how oxygen accelerates the combustion of any fuel and therefore is dangerous around fire.

Kind of a late reply... but I have seen images of a small oxygen cylinder which exploded due to fire. I'm a bit sketchy on the details, but I believe someone was attempting to remove the regulator on top, which caused enough friction for either the metal of the tank, or some sort of teflon sealant or grease lubricant to ignite (I suspect the cylinder was not rated for oxygen). There was not much left of the aforementioned person. Just a whole lot of bits. Scary stuff.

  • Inside a high pressure Oxygen cylinder there is no fuel.

    What would burn?

  • Arrggh ye bunch of pussies - ye shoudda at least made a fucking blow torch for a few seconds - by feeding an oxygen line into the bottles....

And The WD40 and a squirt of oxygen.... in a wee cann? What about using 10 meters of gal water pipe instead...

Oxygen and fuel mixing in a tiny pipe at one end and you with a lighter at the other, and a camera filming almost down the middle of it.... and another off to one side.......

    Pussies the lot of ye.

  • I still wonder though... if a fire was started inside a high pressure oxygen cilinder, would it blow the regulator of and take off like a missile or would it simply blow up with the force of a small atomic bomb?
