As a supporter of Scottish independence, I think we can do without creating that kind of antagonistism. Modern Scottish nationalism is a civic movement - nothing to do with ethnicity or cultural superiority.
A friend of mine in the SNP is a Yorkshireman and works hard to acheive what we all recognise is vitaly important for the well-being of Scotland.
Independence is for everyone in Scotland. It's about building up OUR nation - not running down someone elses.

Im sure the Englsih could do quite well with independence if we gave them the chance, I cant see any reasons to suggest they arent cabable of governing themselves. Im sure some Brit-Scots can stay behind to help them get on their feet.
"come on england, come on england" :D

A former Australian prime minister once said that Australian Independence is not anti-britishness but simply pro-Australian i think the same example applies to Scotland.
-
@WatchingEngland Wrong, we English are descended from the Jutes, Saxons and the Angles. Angle-land became England. Popular English names evolved from Germanic names like William from Wilhelm and John from Johan.

Just because England dont have a clan system dosnt mean they dont have culture.
Most Scottish culture isnt originally Scottish anyway. Most of it is romantic fiction from Burns. Things like Hagis, bagpipes, kilts *cough Thomas Rawlinson* all come from elsewhere and relativly new.
True Scottish culture is selfpitty and anti-englishness.
Neds seem to be the norm when i last visited.

I did add the comment, accompanying this video, that this was tonguein-cheek, and it was only meant as a gentle nudge at the country that so dominates the other nations of these islands.
It is a pity that you should come back so much on the attack. Kind of proves the point!

And, just to set it straight on the anniversary year of his birth, Burns was not so well known for his romantic fiction. He was more of a poet. Did you mean Walter Scott?
But thank you anyway for your thoughts on Scottish culture!

While Thomas Rawlinson did change the shape of the kilt, he did not invent it. Like all clothing it has evolved. The earliest tartan in Scotland dates back nearly 2,000 years. Is that relatively new?
In England, I understand, the national dress is one adopted for Morris dancing which only dates back to William Morris the designer who invented it in the 19th Century! Now that is new and he did a series of patterns for it too most of which ended up as wallpaper! Sad
