HOTPANTS, the musical was staged in 1997 at the now extinct World Trade Centre Auditorium, Singapore. Written and directed by Dick Lee, this hilarious comedy revolved around 3 mothers and their daughters. It was set in the 1970's, when skirts (and pants) were getting shorter, and long hair on males was banned! The wonderful music deserves a little revival, since it seems like it's been buried in time. The amazing cast included Jacintha Abishegenaden, Tan Kheng Hua, Deborah Png, Tanya Chua, Emma Yong, Rosmeera Seet, Steven Lim, Caleb Goh, KUMAR & John Lee.
This was recorded LIVE back in the days BEFORE auto tune and digital machines... Totally analog, and everyone's voices were that good!! There was manual cutting and pasting, but it was discouraged.. The whole cast stood in a large studio, moms at one mic; gals at another, and guys at the the third mic..
Next year is it's 15th anniversary! Let's hope for a re-staging, right, Dick Lee? :))
