Those kids are stupid. Monitors contain hazardous materials (large quantities of lead, phosphorous, cadmium, barium, and mercury).

When the monitor glass is crushed, the lead-bearing particles become an airborne hazard.

Because these dumb kids didn't wear protective gear, masks, and gloves, they'll likely develop respiratory, pneumonitis, and neuropsychiatric problems as they grow older.

A CRT monitor uses a charge of around 32,000 volts (which will kill you if it goes through you) and can hold some of that charge for weeks and even years after it's switched off. If you're going to smash a monitor up yourself, don't use a spanner. Use something that is well insulated. Ideally just don't do it.
