There's a real cultural divide at work here. The thing about Russians, is that when you grow up in a totalitarian society that claims ownership over your very being; smiling, gratitude, hope or showing any emotion outwardly in general is just not the norm in such an oppressive atmosphere. I think the reason why he is raging is that authenticity is realy important to him. That is where his faith in God comes from, his need of a true thing in his life. And that is the reason we he need not only a woman but a woman that can show such a thing (wich is why he left her wife of many years because of differences in "spirituality") so when he finaly blow the lid on Oksana being completely fake to him she touches an aspect of him thas is what matters to him the most, authenticity.
