CBS Evening News history: Douglas Edwards (1950-1962), Walter Cronkite (1962-1981), Dan Rather (1981-2005), Bob Schieffer (2005-2006), Katie Couric (2006-2011), Scott Pelley (2011-present). Walter Cronkite, television's greatest news anchor. Douglas Edwards, television's original news anchor. Both pioneers in their own right.

That's the way it was. Real news broadcasters such as Walter Cronkite, Harry Reasoner, Howard K. Smith, Chet Huntley and David Brinkley. The introduction of Baba Wawa for the purpose of winning popularity contests was probably the beginning of the end of that wonderful era.
