-- Freshmen help lead Volleyball's sweep of Pratt --
Behind the play of its freshmen, the No. 15 ranked Barton Community College Volleyball team swept Pratt Community College in Jayhawk Conference action 25-15, 25-15, and 25-21. With the win the Lady Cougars improve to 10-4 overall and stay unbeaten in conference at 5-0.

"Pratt played really good defense which caused us to have to adjust our offensive attack," said Head Coach Patrick Hall. "It was a game where defenses matched each other and we were able to stay patient enough for our offense to kick in. But give Pratt credit they gave us problems we had to adjust to."

The Lady Cougars controlled most of the match especially in the first two sets but faced a Pratt team unwilling to concede defeat in set three. The Lady Beavers controlled tempo and limited any Barton scoring runs to build a 19-16 advantage which caused Coach Hall to call a timeout. Barton responded by reeling off to tie the set at 19 and outscored Pratt 6-2 to wrap up the set and match.

"It was a good night for some of the girls who normally don't get a lot of chances to step up and shine," Coach Hall said. "I thought our freshmen Taylor Littleton and Isabel Valdez stepped up and showed flashes of their potential while Jasbelle Cruz also had some big moments."

Barton will face another tough weekend ahead as they travel to Scottsbluff, Nebraska to compete in the Wyo-Braska Classic. The Lady Cougars will play Friday against Eastern Wyoming College at noon then face top-ranked and defending NJCAA Division I Champion Western Nebraska Community College at 4:00 p.m. On Saturday Barton will play national receiving votes Sheridan College at 10:00 a.m. and then wrap up the tournament against Northwest College at 2:00 p.m.

Barton returns home for Jayhawk Conference play on Monday September 26 against Colby Community College. Match time is 6:00 p.m.
