This really seems to be splitting the fans as to whether it is The Crowes or not. Many still believe it is another member singing (such as Marc or Rich since it's classed as a demo recording) whilst others are very adamant it's not them.
For now I shall leave it on here as it is as that's still what it's claimed to be by a number of sites (and generally reliable sources) but once I get proof and have some time to do further research hopefully the puzzle will be solved, especially since it's doing my head in a bit...

  • If anyone cares to Google "Crowing Stones" they will find a commonly available compilation of Rolling Stones songs covered by The Black Crowes. On this they will find an unreleased demo version of Sympathy for the Devil. I recall it was recorded live in studio for a radio show and was only played a couple of times on the radio. It is also available for purchase off ITunes as well as many other download sites for mp3's. If it's not the Crowes then a lot of people are being fooled by this.

  • @IdahoPlace It's not on iTunes. Sadly, that's just a compilation that someone probably made at home on their own computer during the Napster days when things were mislabeled left and right.

  • @1234mymusic Thanks for that info. I don't actually have iTunes so haven't been able to check it directly however a number of sites I have visited in my attempt to work out exactly who this is have little links saying but it on itunes.

  • I've downloaded this version from four different (usually reliable) sources and they all claim to be the crowes. I know they did a version but i'm still not 100% certain it's them but in the end I can only work with the info given with the track and hope it's right.

  • who's singing this doesn't sound like chris or rich? Is it Sven or Marc?

  • @bradical0812 I'm not sure but it doesn't sound like Chris to me either. It is sold on itunes sites as The Black Crowes acoustic version so i'm conifdent it is the crowes.

  • @Aalborg62 @w0bbl3r @IdahoPlace - Check out my comment below.

  • This is Pat McGee (of the Pat McGee Band). I can't find this exact version, but I found a version from Feb 16, 1999 at TT Reynolds. You can find it on archive (dot) org. Unfortunately, those are listed out of order, so you'll find it under "Midnight Rider." It is 100% him.

  • It's not Bon Jovi you tools!

It's not Chris Robinson either but that don't mean it ain't the Crowes

  • BON JOVI PEOPLE. BON FREAKIN JOVI!

  • Definitely not The Black Crowes... it's certainly not a voice i've ever heard in the The Black Crowes.

  • This is NOT The Black Crowes...They have never covered SFTD ever either live or even in the studio just fooling around...
