  • Actually go listen to the lyrics close, they're not altogether that happy a lot of em are about bad relationships or rejection or being forgotten or just rather dark imagery...

BUt yeah, he always had a pretty sweet tune didn't he?

Man. For a guy who was only in the music industry for a few years, he really has changed music forever. Fucking amazing.

  • He was e real original painter...

  • @wvoutlaw2009 Yes it is, there's a link to his page up there, but he has taken down a lot of his Syd Barrett stuff. Thanks for watching.

I agree with you. I saw other paintings on some websites and it made me a bit sad when I saw the dates and found out all my favourite ones were the ones he did in the '60s. Most of the ones he did later look unfinished; I think he had trouble to concentrate after he became ill. But he really had so much talent; I just love the last picture and the one with the lions and frightened children. The painting at 2:17 shows he had very strong technical skills; quite amazing in fact.

For painting, the goal is to convey your own idea, thought, feelings, etc in an effective and original manner. The driving force really comes from within the artist. Personally, I believe it is the same with all art forms. Before, painting was much more academic (specific rules about proportions, lighting, shading, etc) and even in music, there were specific rules, but it's become very open now, and such "rules" are not so relevant anymore.

  • He was the QUINTESSENTIAL artist (there's more of his great drawings/paintings that aren't in this vid)! But, I've noticed that after his mental problems began, his artwork began getting worse (the paintings above that he signed as "Roger" were done in the late 70's), those weren't good at all...SO sad. :~(

  • @executiveE very funny but syd barrett wasnt gay

  • Hi. In music Its important to be an original and from that point on make music that refers to your own originality in the most aesthetic ways so that beauty shines through. What is the important thing in Painting? I dont feel paintings as much as i do music... does somebody of you? Rules of aestheticness are given like from da vinci and the bodyshapes... but what is the starting-point from what all is taking off? Is it the artist or the atmosphere(refernce)? please a painters here to answer me?
