I've heard that the money currently spent on Section 8 housing, unemployment, food stamps, WIC, etc. is 70% of what it would cost to implement basic income. Is this true in the United States?
It's a lot easier to sell this if most of the money it would take is already being spent on lesser programs, programs which wouldn't exist if there were a basic income (if I have a basic income, I hardly need food stamps).
