Short demo of an MFB-Step 64 sequencing a Dotcom modular. The Step 64 is a nice little and inexspensive step sequencer with both midi and cv/gate outputs.

  • also wondering what the octave range of the note knob is. is it adjustable? on the maq16 you can choose between 3 and 5 octaves. i assume it's quantized right? thanks!

  • @captainjc2007 hi, i consider it the best stepsequencer in the low price range. 2 years of intensive use and it's still workin reliably. the steps are quantized and go 5 octaves (C1 > D6). you can select more at one at once, all simultaneously and so on... i use it on a basic level but you can do subtle things with it. i suggest you dowload the manual from the manufacturers website (goggle "mfb berlin") to see what is possible with it.

  • how did you make the keyboard send the note message to the sequencer?

  • @onnolab i think it simply was keyboard midi out > step64 midi in or in reverse order sequencer midi out > keyboard midi in and then keyboard midi out > modular midi in, one of those combinations... sorry but i can't remember it exactly

  • Sorry I am a beginner, but I had some questions. Basically the Step64 doesn't make sounds by itselfs but controls other instruments right? Can I use both midi and CV/gate at the same time? For example could I sync the clock with the mfb 522 AND control a nanozwerg over CV to make some melody in sync at the same time?

    Thanks!!!

Because that is what I want to do.

  • @rudyvanos hi, yes the step64 only generates midi and/or cv/gate signals and you can use them at the same time;. i think the sync with the 522 and another synth like the nanozwerg will work, but i can't confirm this 100%.... i suggest you download the manuals of these machines fron the manufacturer's website (google: "MFB Berlin")

  • Hello. What do you think about this sequencer? It's good for making some easier different loop. Thanks for advance

  • @birbabirbabirba ah ok. i suppose you get used to it, but i have had some frustrating moments with that so far.

  • @captainjc2007 hi captain, yes, if you change the notes while the sequencer is running, you always have to save the sequence before your stop the sequencer

  • oh boy sorry for the repeat comments. didn't look like they were posting...
