@xiongmu what the hell, this TV series shows the reality of the life abroad, even the success of Wang is too dramatic. I don't find any political purpose in it.
@tvnetdude “It was supposed to make the US look like the US”... Where are you from buddy? It was supposed to make the U.S. look the way the CCP’s propaganda dept. wanted the U.S. to look: as bad as possible! In the early 90’s the PRC gov was fighting for legitimacy as a result of Tiananmen and the fall of communism in Europe. Chinese leaders started bashing the U.S. and promoting nationalism as a way to deflect criticism from their own faults. This show is an outcome of that policy.
@xiongmu I saw all 21 episodes too and it was the first time the Chinese people saw what America looked like. It is pretty hokey today but it had huge ratings when it first aired. It was supposed to make the US look like the US.
All I can say is that it was a bear to shoot! It was an important first in China. It was the first TV series shot in the US to be viewed in China. The US Deputy Minister to the US in China was one of the main characters.
American and European products were sponsors and it was seen by more people than the US population.
The last shot, of the last episode, is all mine. I introduced the middle finger to China.
Most of the white people (extras) are from NBC as was the production manager.

@xiongmu You got stereotype with the series. The series is obvious telling the truth. And there is no good or bad.
