Ed Watson is 78 years old and has Alzheimer's. He's worried that by the time the court finally rules on Prop 8, he won't be able to recognize Derence, his partner of over 40 years. Watch Ed's story here, then join us in signing our open letter to the 9th Circuit asking them to lift the stay on the Prop 8 decision, and to allow loving couples like Ed and Derence the freedom to marry: http://www.couragecampaign.org/Liftth...

If you dont know the follow up to this story, Ed has recently passed. A true tragedy in a world of hate and inequality. I don't care if you think zeus can smite people at will, if you think Allah is the only true God, or if you think your fucking left pinky toe can determine the fate of mankind, NO BELIEF SYSTEM SHOULD DETERMINE WHO LEGALLY HAS THE RIGHT TO MARRY ANOTHER INDIVIDUAL. NOT EVERYONE BELIEVES IN A SINGLE BELIEF SYSTEM, THEREFORE WE CANNOT CREATE A LEGAL CODE BASED OFF A BOOK.

I'm assuming based on your username, that you're a girl. Are you saying that homosexuality is against the bible? Well, does the bible apply to everyone? If so, then please be quiet. I'm a man, and the bible DOES say: "I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man. She must be quiet." (1 Timothy 2:12). So there. I win. Now, if you believe in women's rights, like most rational, open-minded people, then why is homosexuality perverse? You can't pick and choose from the bible.

10: Another appeal to emotions. As a counter question: how many strait people are happily married?

11: Those kids are not the children of those couples. And, it's just another appeal to emotions.

    12: Yes.

13: AIDS and other STDs should fill that pie chart.

14: I don't have a daughter, and when I do I won't let her marry someone like you.

7: Classic propaganda: use emotions to win people over to your side. Gay marriage is still wrong.

8: My grandparents, for one. My great aunt and uncle. My cousin 7 times removed. Married people get divorced, of course, and that is wrong. But how many gay people have been together and separated? This step really isn't an argument.

9: Another appeal to emotions, not really an argument. I'm not sure I even get it.

The second flaw with this argument is that the passage references an ancient pagan ritual in which mourners would cut themselves, and give their hair what was called a "bowl cut", in which a bowl was placed on the head and all exposed hair was cut off. This passage forbids this pagan practice.

The third flaw is that the man holding the sign has short hair. Having long or short hair has nothing to do with sexual orientation.

    5: No.

6: This argument references Leviticus 19:27. Here are three flaws:

One is that Leviticus was addressed to the ancient Jews and has several ritualistic commands meant for Jews, not modern-day Christians. For example, we don't have to sacrifice anymore, and we are allowed to wear garments made of more than one material.

3: This equates black oppression to gay marriage. The only problem Christians have with gay marriage is that the Bible does not allow it. We do not hate gay people, and the equation of Christians to racist people is very unfair.

4: Very crass, but I will address it anyway. I care because it is against the Word of God. I have no problem explaining to my future child that people sin. And, from a human perspective, AIDS wouldn't exist if it weren't for gay people

Wow, what has our society turned into? Rebuttals:

Step 1: It's a joke, and in fact it points out a flaw of gay marriage: gay couples can't have children.

2: This assumes the crowd is always right, and that the reader is a sheep.
