Exterior images of Bet Amanueal (the House of Emanuel), one of the eleven 12th century rock-hewn churches in Lalibela, Ethiopia.

The metal shelters protecting the structure were recently added by the European Commission to help protect five of the structures from the elements, time, and tourism. To truly preserve these structures, a long-term preservation strategy will be necessary.
