Miami, Fl. : Paparelli reads from one of her journals. She has several journals in which one may find unedited writing which is done before, during, or after her painting process. In this video she reads about her painting "Excavation" and touches on the Theory of Everything. The work itself is not about quantum physics, but for Paparelli, painting is an exploration of things to be wondered about. She received the honor of having been invited to include her journals in the Smithsonian Archive of Artists Writings, when a representative from the Smithsonian spent several hours in her studio pouring over the journals. At the time, Paparelli asked: "Is this the kind of thing you are looking for?" and the rep from the Smithsonian came back with a very positive: "Yes. This is exactly what we are looking for.

  • Delighted to see your grid work particularly "Almost Happy." The journal sketches and journal notations are historically interesting and I am almost happy myself seeing the realizations of your work.

  • @SheilaSong You and I have been friends for a long time. If I had another painting to title, these days I would call it "Finally, Happy!". So glad we are friends who rejoice in each other's successes.

  • @cmberntein Charles, (I think the above comment was removed because you sent it twice by accident.) Thanks for your comments. When I looked at the video again I was hoping that people would understand that the writing was unedited and written when I was deeply in right brain, as I write when I am painting. It is certainly "no frills writing". I will be showing small and medium sized works from the grid series in the exhibition 9/25/10.

  • Jan, I like your paintings and your writing. "Almost Happy" contains forms that remind me of the abstract expressionists and aboriginal tribal artists. "Excavation" has wonderful paint textures and a dreamy fantasy quality. Your journal is a beautiful artist book. Your speculation about the hearafter, and what is unknowable, resonates with me.--Charles Bernstein
