Based on the Alfred Noyes poem.
Additional words and music by Helen and Amy.
Here are the lyrics as requested, sorry it's taken so long.

The Highwayman

The wind was a torrent of darkness
Upon the gusty trees
The moon was a ghostly galleon
Tossed upon cloudy seas

And the highwayman came riding--
Riding--riding--
The highwayman came riding, up to the old inn door.

He whistled a tune to the window,
And who should be waiting there
But Bess the landlords daughter
With a love knot in her hair

Kisses that tasted the sweetest
Stolen in the light of the moon
Two hearts together connected
Would their love now become their tomb?

Then look for me by moonlight,
Watch for me by moonlight,
I'll come to thee by moonlight, though hell should bar the way.

The highwayman came the next night
Came clattering into the yard
He did not know his sweetheart
Was held inside by the guard

She heard the cobblestones clatter
Pulled the trigger took her last breath
It sounded out in the moonlight
And warned him with her death

For Bess, the landlord's daughter,
The landlord's black-eyed daughter,
Had watched for her love in the moonlight, and died in the darkness there.

That highway man came riding up
Heard the warning and took flight
Galloped madly away to the west
Death ringing out in the moonlight

They shot him down in the moonlight
Down like a dog in the highway
They were waiting for him that night
As the moon was lighting the way

Now the road lay bare in the moonlight,
Blank and bare in the moonlight,
And the blood in his veins, in the moonlight, flowed out to his love's refrain

But still on a moonlit night its said
When the wind is in the trees
When the moon is a ghostly galleon
Tossed upon cloudy seas

The highwayman comes riding--
Riding--riding--
The highwayman comes riding, to his love at the old inn door.
