I miss you Mom.

I still have the costume my Mom, Ann, wore in the last picture. On that particular day, she'd given a lecture on George Washington's military policy. I'd heard her give public talks in the past, but I clearly recall sitting in the audience that day, and thinking about how proud I was of my Mom. I have her notes about that lecture here ... someplace. ;-)

My video content is prompted by NaruyoJapan's video, "The Present of the Early Summer," which is currently featured on my channel. I recently learned about Naruyo from my friend, Moomay. The cherry blossom trees around the Jefferson Memorial in Washington, D. C. were a gift to the United States by Japan in 1912. My Mother often spoke of the beauty and elegance of those trees. Carnations, as I understand from information I've found on the Internet, are often given to Mothers in Japan on Mother's Day. The rose at the end is in remembrance of my Mother.

Scenery: Paris, Virginia, USA. My parents would sometimes drive through this general area on Sunday afternoons. This scenery is what I remember of the Valley as a child, and why I moved to this region of Virginia when I retired.

The picture of my Mother with the young man was taken during the 1970s. The young man is my cousin, Colin. My Mother wore white gloves in public well into that decade, as evidenced by the photo. It wasn't too many years after that when her daughter was wearing firefighting gloves. Tempo was my firefighting glove of choice, and I'm certain that Emily Post would approve. ;-)

  • is is really pretty

  • Thanks, AVDJ, but this is really something, because I was just thinking of this video earlier in the day. I hadn't thought of it in months! That's quite a coincidence, enough of one to mention it, I think!

    Wow.

  • Patrice, thanks for coming to this video. :)

  • I lost my mom this monday, i wish you the best, and i'd like to hope there will be an end to this empty feeling consuming me... it's like a big hole being torn out of you, my condolances to you, i hope it has gotten easier over time.

  • Hi dreaminvasion. I'm so sorry that you've lost your Mother, and I do remember the emptiness I felt when I first lost mine about eight years ago. That feeling diminishes over time, yes. The hole you're describing will certainly heal. There will be moments after that when the loss hits you again, such as this past Mother's Day for me, but you'll process that and be fine. dreaminvasion, you are very welcome to communicate with me privately, if the need arises. :)

  • Naruyo, thank you for explaining, and also for watching. I wondered about the right color! :)

  • Karacaw...I give it a red carnation in Japan in Mother's Day. The person who lost mother like me white. But I hate it. I give a red carnation to mother. Thank you.

  • I would love to see that video, and your Dad would be very proud of you. :)

  • I'm back to watch again. *sigh* Still a masterpiece. I'm sure you Mom would have loved it. I'm thinking about~since watching this~ making one for my Dad.
