I think you need more heat and more cold.

nothing is supposed to be tight! just leakproof

For me the balloon is too much softly, stretches it! And it's movement is too much large, reduces it a little. Attention to the frictions
Arrivederci!

My displacer is metal sponge (which use for wash dishes)

The hot side is too low temperature, use the higher candle closer to engine. Apply wet tissue the cold side cooling. Too high the stroke of work diphragm, reduce it! It will work soon. Check my engines out!

Try two things: one, add more tension to the diaphragm (it does not seem to be tight enough). Get sure if you have a clear 90º phase angle between power and displacer. There are many things which could be happening... friction on displacer, low temperature difference between hot and cold (maybe some ice on the top?).
Try different combinations between these tips. Good luck!!

more heat!!!

It's hard to tell from the video, but I think you are cranking it backwards. Doesn't the displacer lead the power piston?
thanks for all of the suggestions... i received some very clear advice from one of my teachers and i'm about to upload a video of the "tweaked" engine, though it still does not work. Unfortunately the problem may lie within the engine--it could involve the size of the displacer. I'm hoping this isn't the case.
