Memories of the Sudanese war - BBC

In this clip from the BBC, Supermodel Alek Wek is in Sudan with her mother for the first time since escaping the war when she was just 14. Watch here as her mother re-lives the battles she faced when trying to live in the war torn African country, and the emotional reunion with the house they lived in before seeking political asylum in the UK. Emotional scenes occur when an old neighbour is overcome when she realises who the visitors are - she had not thought either of the women had survived the Sudanese War.

unfortunately, the world standard of beauty is based on the European standard. If I am a black woman, then there is no way in hell European standard could work for me. I have course hair that I embrace, I have a wider nose, fuller lips, hips and a butt all of which I embrace. I can never be European standard nor could Alek. Take it or leave it we are all beautiful in our own right.

i called a spade a spade when i see it. No hard feelings for alek, i think she's a wonderful and smart lady, but i do think she's ugly or not beautiful if u don't like the word ugly.
