Eric and J.D., two unorthodox film critics at Scene-Stealers.com (and contestants on VH1's 2007 World Series of Pop Culture as Westerburg High), are disappointed about all the missed opportunities in the new Steven King-based horror thriller 1408 starring John Cusack and they're not afraid to say so. Hear what they have to say and see clips from the film!

  • The whole Idea of a short story Is to leave you to guess what could happen next. The movie was made very well seeing as you look at it from the person himself and his own demons! This movie Is for any who has a brain not for those closed minded morons who assume. In my opinion this Is a movie where you can "create your own ending" Wow. Instead of the lazy persons who wants It all gift rapped. Great movie for the deep thinker and soul... This IS Steven king.

  • Thts just it, Snarlez. This movie DID gift-wrap the ending. It was typical when it could have been more ambiguous.

  • You're saying more Ambiguous = good Horror thrillers? Yet your saying this is suppose to be like a typical old school type horror esque movie? Wait you're saying it's a typical ending when alot of other horror movies end it Bad? When tons of horror movies end it Open Ended? So please just tell me how would Ambiguous horror movies mean it's better? It's a simple Horror movie and does an amazing job at it. It doesn't need to have a twist ending to be good.

  • ...but it DOES have a stupid twist ending. Did we see the same film?

  • I agree that the last few acts weren't as tight as the start and the ending left me scratching my head, but it's utterly worth seeing just for John Cusack. I'm surprised that they didn't mention his fantastic performance.

  • Hey Ruby, check out my print review on Scene-Stealers for that-- he was the best part of the film!

  • Yo, Dudes! 1408 RULES!!! It starts out great and it ends great, because it is self contained horror, not like some other horror flick. You have a guy who is a skeptic and ends with something that is undeniable that it is real (within the story it tells). The ending did bring a closure to the whole journey of Mike Enslin (Cusack).

  • Screw these critics, they're no different than the critics who have been giving horror/thriller films low ratings for ever including the original Saw, fuck the mainstream critics and these ones too.

  • Going into the movie had a feeling of how it was going to end. Mostly from how king usually closes his stories following male protaganidt

  • Well you missed something on the wall. That gives you how he's going to end and it did ended perfect! That was a good movie.

  • totally disagree. the ending was brilliant. classic Stephen King by touching the question of God and the catholic religion. the film was three very solid acts and I didnt feel it pulled an M. Night twist, it held up pretty nicely. 5/5

  • i just watched this movie last night and i have to say it was a great scary movie.. it had me on the edge the whole movie and the ending was even better.. what shit are you two smoking?

  • It was a great movie and I have others that agree with me.

I think the ending did well to an extent.

Though, yes I would have to agree the ending should have been 10 minutes earlier.

  • i remember watching this movie

it had such an awesome start, the build up to the actual room was done perfectly

so much that the first half of the movie had me in so much suspense and fear as to what was going on in the room

then the 2nd half of the movie.. could have been awesome and scary and stuff, but no

it was an excellent beginning, with an ending that could have been so much more

  • THEN WHY DO YOU WATCH IT you wasted you're own time and by doing that, they have 5:05 minutes of your time, and then they have a bit of your soul...

and you can never get it back!

MWAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAH! *cough* your lose dude. I like their reviews

  • the last act i was so confused

  • Rock fist? Come on now. I agree though, the movie had a lot of potential but, failed to hold its own.

  • But also not only was the ending to emphasize on Enslin's Fatefull day at the room to be real. But also to emphasize his dream to come true which is to happiness to realise her daughter will be there spirtually after his death and also to be together with his Wife again. The ending was quite happy and i don't think it's a Gift Wrap ending because there is some thought it has different meanings in the ending.
