2/11: He made it to the top 36!

Sam has heard about Von Smith for a while now, as people keep comparing Von to Sam. Well, here they are together, meeting for the first time. Von Lee Smith became a YouTube hit when he uploaded his version of "And I Am Telling You, I'm Not Going"... which caught the eyes and ears of Sam's friend Rosie O'Donnell. Rosie invited Von on "The View", and we are certainly going to hear more from him in the future.

I heard she's doing it from one of the broadway houses.

I am excited for her. I hope the show goes - we need something like this and clearly "variety" is no longer a dirty word in television. If the show gets picked up for a series I am sure we'll do something together on it - she mentioned that she'd like to and of course I would. She's great. Not only her talent but her heart.

I am sure you didn't mean anything by it, but just because other people have made the comparison of our voices doesn't mean this is an open forum for who does what better? Wow Von does sound like a young Sam - such an interesting Vlog to see that. He has a way to go to reach the emotion you put into your performances though Sam, and you're way better looking..ha!

I agree on that often less is more. Von Smith is too young and it seems to me he is on his way to catch attention towards his talent and potential for a world wide career. Not rarely, people in beginning careers tend to over sing, while showing off their strongest features, in Von's case, his wide range.

I'm amazed at how generous you are Sam offering personal reflections to Von about being in New York and Los Angeles. It was wonderful to see these candid comments from one vocal superstar to another another vocal superstar to be. Thanks for sharing ... both with Von and with us. :)

Hahahah too adorable. VON is such a SAM Jr . I thought for sure he would make it to the top 10 on AI but apparently he was TOO talented for AI and NOT commercial enough. He was the best one of his night

He has some talent -- but he WAY over-sings and every performance becomes the tackiest of extremes. He could learn a lot form Sam about developing a sense of style and taste as an artist. I was not at all surprised to see he didn't make top 12; it's like watching those kids scream form years ago on Al Alberts -- too show-offy and vain. I wish him well, but I wish him humility and experience.

I heard now their down to the top 12. is von smith still in the running or did he get eliminated? if he got eliminated already then screw A.I. he is one of the best and have a magnificent voice.. A.I. made a mistake when they eliminated Daughtrey and let freaking Taylor Hicks win, who is more popular though? I guess it's not A.I. fault but the fans to voted.
