  • There is "Legalistic" parenting where the parents behave with the reward/punishment system only, like Piper was saying, and there is "Antinomian" parenting, where parents are lawless in regards to their kids.

What I think Piper is advocating is a third parenting style where there are rules and restrictions, but there is still gospel and repentance. Just as the Lord disciplines Christians that he saved through the gospel, parents still ought to discipline kids who are saved through the gospel

  • i totally agree with you, some people gets bored at his long expositions to get to something simple, people want quick answers, i don`t.

i love expository preaching where every single words hangs giving honor to Jesus so we can understand clearly what the message is and not go around talking about things we don`t understand. God bless you

  • @BethelShual There is alot more to say on this topic such as corporal punishment can not be considered Godly wisdom James:3:17 Sparking fear into a child is not a loving thing to do 1 John 4:18 Taking a rod to someone is the opposite of love 1 corinthians 4:21 we are not allowed to fear anyone but God himself Mathew 10:28 not to provoke children to anger and wrath colossians 3:21 and ephesians 6:4 After all jesus already took the physical chastisment for us on the cross Isaiah 53:5

  • @davluc1 Well, sir, there's not much more to say about this. I don't think you'll agree with me and I won't agree with you, either. I mean, it just doesn't say what you're trying to make it say, plainly. I'd rather not go in circles, as it seems this will go in. I would expect you to reply to this, but depending how? Please, understand, I don't plan to reply back, so as to avoid this going in a circle until someone finally decides to stop replying.

  • @BethelShual It only seems best to our earthly father because they are observing with a carnal mind. They do not not see the harm that they are doing to the spirit of the child.Notice GOd never comes down and smacks us around as chastisment but rather lovingly convicts our spirit through the power of the holy spirit. True in the carnal world physical force rules but make no mistake about it the spirit operates by different laws. The spirit can only heal in the presence of Love &f orgiveness

  • @davluc1 I mean, we respected our earthly fathers, even though they only chastened us as seemed best to them (they could be wrong sometimes; they were not always right). How much more then, should we be subject to God, who is always doing it for our profit, knowing what is best for us?

  • @davluc1 That's not true, though. It doesn't have to mean that it wasn't best, but that, just as it says, it seems best. When something seems best to you, does it mean you are always wrong and it's not really the best? Instead, it's just as it says: it seems best. Sometimes, it really can be what is best. Others, it's not. However, with God, it always is for our own good, unlike an earthly father.

God always for our good, but our earthly fathers, as seems best.

  • @BethelShual I am not twisting scripture. In hebrews 12:10 there is one comparison being done . It is being done between reasons. The reason God chastens his children " FOR OUR PROFIT" compared to the reason that our earthly fathers do it " AFTER THEIR OWN PLEASURE" If you understand how comparisons work this becomes obvious. If you use another translation that says " that seemed best to them" thats fine but notice it only SEEMED best which means it wasn't best but only seemed that way.

  • @davluc1 You can repeat the same thing as many times as you'd like, but it still doesn't say what you're saying it does. I never denied it being what seemed best to them, but where in that verse does it say that the parent's chastisement is a lie or unprofitable? You can connect Ephesians 6:12 with it, but you're interpreting Hebrews to try to make it fit there. You can't twist Scripture like that.

  • @BethelShual I never added anything.I have aced every reading comprehension test i have ever had. Hebrews 12 :10 KJV For they verily for a few days chastened us AFTER THEIR OWN PLEASURE: but he FOR OUR PROFIT that we might be partakers of his holiness. This is comparing the physical chastasment of our carnal flesh from our earthly fathers to the spiritual correction from God. Once again showing that the the only truth is the spiritual and the carnal is a lie and not profitable.Ephesians6:12
