Old post of yours but it was probably the MAF (mass air flow sensor) that they stole :P

@DeliciousMike i have the same one but its not as in good shape. i have huge rust holes in the front fenders. i got the car from a relative and the left timing belt snapped so i had to redo the timing and put new belts on. once in a while the car tries to stall out on me even tho i have my clutch all the way in and my pedal is to the floor. the car always backfires as well. if you listen to the engine it doesnt sound like its running consistant. could my timing be out? or is my camshaft screwed?

@DeliciousMike Sad thing is... the garage knows they did it wrong they just know how to avoid paying you what was fair.Trouble is.. you set the car aside until someone could help you... if you had taken it to a Subaru Certified Mechanic you would have had a real chance at getting your money back... I realize you were in a bind and couldn't do so at the time... but thats what it would have taken for CT to be forced to own their mistake!

first ask them for the cash if they dont pay call the auto inspector from your local DMV and if he dont get you your cash spend $10 bucks and take them to small claims court and the judge will get you your cash.

@DeliciousMike Only an improvement in computers will prevent scams. Sort of like those little black bars glued to some packages. Hopefully the parties involved pay for the damages. Good luck.

@DeliciousMike Yes, I suppose Can. Tire has a reputation for shoddy work, but this appears to be universal. With more sensors monitoring timing conditions, and other critical engine settings, it would be harder for mechanics to pull fast ones. A pre-start computer scan should determine camshaft position, and other parameters, such as oil level, coolant level, brake fluid temp,/level, etc. GM has OnStar protection for their customers. Lock yourself in, it will be ulocked by satellite.

I took my pt cruiser into CRAPPY TIRE for a SIMPLE oil change... this was too hard obviously because they ruined the threads to my oil pan cap and now i have a plug that you have to tighten every time... it wasnt until my next oil change when i took it to mr lube because they are cheaper... which doesnt make sence to me.. and they told me the threads were comepletly cross threaded and it was a mission to get my old cap off..
nice car !
what mpg you get?
your missing a spare tire!

@crammage Thanks!
Right now, i'd be lucky to get 23mpg, i think but wont know for sure until she's a regular driver again.
The spare is at home. Just out of the way as to work on her.
thanks for watching! I have a few more updated vids of my subie if interested.

In a court of law one must prove that what is claimed actually happened.
How can we be sure the Can Tire mechanic installed the timing belt wrong.Where's the fingerprints? How could you drive it home? Is the Subaru an interference engine? Anyway, I'll believe what you say. Computer codes won't save your butt if a timing belt breaks and your passing a semi. Maybe it's time to upgrade to a gear drive? Nothing is safe, but have a nice day.

@seapeddler upgrade to a gear drive? I don't get it.
I couldn't drive it home. I towed it at my expense.
This is not a court of law. This is public media.

It is a none interference engine.

@seapeddler
One more point. What if i get a few hundred stories from people who have been ripped off? no proof. No law suits, court room. Spread through media? Maybe a few will think twice before making that same mistake i've made, and they may keep their cars on the road at a reasonable price.
The fact is we should as Canadians trust our most known garage. We should trust that our vehicle is in good hands at Can Tire. Bottom line. And until I get a full refund and apology then I can't.
