This early introduction movie is about the
SOASC= project which is an automated recording technique invented by me (Stone Oakvalley) in order to mass record music from the legendary Commodore 64 and its SID chips (6581 and 8580).

This is a quick movie showing the outline of the actual recording taking place during the 4month period of Commodore 64 authenthic recording project. Later in August 2007 the system was rebuilt and another version of the 6581 chip was recorded. ALL of HVSC's SID files recorded to MP3. For both the 6581 and 8580 chip....145000+ of files. 450GB in size, world's ONLY and LARGEST archive now and forever....Check out my website www.6581-8580.com for in-depth information and also the tunes ready for download!

Update: 29 Dec - We are starting to get back online, and the project has produced a whopping 145499 MP3 files! This project is finished after 1.5 years of work!

Actual SID Chips used for recording:
MOS 6581R4 3387 14 - Known as R4
MOS 6581 2383 - Known as R2
C= CSG 8580R5 2689 25

  • Wow, was this automated? Are the computers linked via the parallel port to transfer file info data?

  • Yes, 3 PAR ports were hooked to the C64. 1 for file transfer, two for keyboard typing on C64 and special handling like "loading end" detection and reset of the C64.

  • but what about song that loop? ;) Whats the cuttoff time? :)

  • All songs lengths are extracted from HVSC's own songlengths.txt. They have used automatic tools to determine such and the results are beta. I rely only on that information 100% for these recordings.
